Network Engineer

We have an opportunity for a Network Engineer to work within a team responsible for the installation, management and service of Optimity’s ISP products. The role offers ownership & responsibility for building a robust network documentation process, managing alerts & reporting. You will be able to produce detailed technical HLD / LLD documentation of complex ISP & MSP network topologies and assist with network auditing, incident reports, proposals and 3rd tier ticket escalation.

You will be required to produce new and supplement existing high & low level documentation for existing large campus network environments through SME LAN network environments. You will be experienced across multi-vendor technologies and environments including typical Cisco & Juniper equipment, maintaining existing documentation and asset management platforms including RackTables and others.

This role is not open to agencies

Please note that this position will require traveling on-site to customers in London, sometimes at short notice, therefore full-remote work or long-distance travel won't be suitable to candidates living outside the M25

Monitor alerts & performance and ensure system availability and reliability.
Routing and switching.
Monitor system resource utilisation, trending, and capacity planning.
Provide Tier 3 deep technical support and troubleshooting to resolve issues which may require onsite visits.
Work within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval and success of changes made to the network infrastructure.
Perform onsite audits to scope and document existing and any planned infrastructure changes.
Highlight areas of concern, and ideas for improvement, when there is belief that systems or services could be impacted or improved.
Network configuration and implementation of network upgrades and new product builds.
Working on an array of layer 2/3 network services.
Configuring and supporting all of L2VPNs, L3VPNs and Inter-AS NNIs, Core Networks, etc.; employing Full Mesh or Route Reflectors within a BGP core.

Proven hands-on network engineering experience.
Good understanding of RSVP (strict and Loose paths) and ISIS interworking.
At least 3 years’ experience implementing network projects within an SME / ISP / MSP environment.
Hands-on experience with monitoring, network diagnostic and network analytics tools.
Excellent time management and organisation.
Certified to CCNP or JNCIP level or demonstrate equivalent knowledge.
Extensive experience with configuring and supporting the following protocols/technologies – BGP, OSPF, CLNS/ISIS, RSVP, BFS, VRRP, 802.1.q, Q-in-Q, L2TP (LAC/LNS) PVST+/MST, Swith-Stacks (Cisco and Juniper).
Experience with configuring and supporting DC Technologies and EVPN solutions.

University degree in Computer Science or a related subject.
Experience of Cisco, Fortinet & Meraki is a bonus but not essential.
